The Winthrop Studio is a 576 square foot studio apartment over a two-car garage, one open room under a vaulted ceiling with a kitchenette, a full bath and a deck of its own at the top of the stairs.
It is the simplest plan in our garage apartments and the most flexible: a rental, a guest room, an office, a studio for someone who paints or plays. The garage below keeps its two bays for the main house.
A vaulted ceiling: the ceiling follows the roof over the studio, so one room feels like a bigger one.
A private deck: the stair lands on a deck that belongs to the studio, for coffee in the morning or a chair in the evening.
A kitchenette: enough kitchen to cook and clean up, for daily living or a short-term guest.
One room, many uses: apartment, guest suite, office or workshop for the creative side of the family.
A two-car garage: parking for two and storage at ground level.
