The Magnolia Beach Hut is a small beach cottage lifted over its carport, drawn for the 30 foot wide lots you find a block or two from the water. A 30 by 8 foot front porch runs the full width of the house, the living room behind it is vaulted, and a grilling deck at the back keeps the cooking outside where it belongs in summer.
All the living is on one floor: the primary suite with a walk-in closet and its own bath at one end, two more bedrooms and a half bath at the other. Down at ground level there is an open room next to the two-car carport for beach gear, bikes, a game table or the overflow when everyone comes at once.
A full-width front porch: 30 feet by 8, room for rocking chairs at one end and a table at the other, and the first thing anyone sees.
A vaulted living room: the ceiling goes up with the roof, so a 1,430 square foot house does not feel like one.
A grilling deck at the back: off the living space, so the cook is still part of the evening.
