Casa Azul turns the usual house upside down. The kitchen, dining and living room are on the top floor, under a vaulted ceiling with the roof trusses left exposed, because that is where the view is. The bedrooms sit on the floor below, so the noise of a full house stays upstairs and the sleeping rooms stay quiet.
It is drawn for a waterfront lot, with the whole house lifted over a 1,359 square foot drive-under garage on a 40 by 65 foot footprint. Framing for an elevator is in the plan, so top-floor living works at any age. One bedroom sits up on the living floor with a full bath beside it, for a guest suite or an office with the best light in the house.
Living on the top floor: kitchen, dining and living sit at the highest point of the house, where the light and the view are, with ten-foot ceilings and the trusses showing.
A kitchen that opens to the porch: a large island, a separate pantry and sliding glass doors straight out to a covered porch, so dinner can move outside without a trip through the house.
Three bedrooms or four: the bedroom on the living floor has a full bath beside it. Use it as a guest suite, an office, or a fourth bedroom when the family grows.
