Elevated Coastal House Plan with a Main-Floor Primary Suite

3,233 SQ. FT. | 4 BED | 3.5 BATH | 2-STORY | 2-CAR DRIVE-UNDER GARAGE

The Wren has an L-shaped layout, with the living rooms on one leg and the bedrooms on the other, so the two never crowd each other. The dining and living room sit under a vaulted ceiling with the roof trusses left exposed, the kitchen has a long island and a pantry of its own, and a screened porch runs off the living space for the evenings when the bugs are out.

The primary suite is on the main floor, along with an office and the laundry, so a couple can live on one level and keep the upstairs for family and guests. Up there, three bedrooms open off a reading loft at the top of the stairs: two share a Jack and Jill bath, the third has a bath of its own. The whole house stands on posts and piers over a drive-under garage, which lifts the living floors above a flood zone lot.

Vaulted ceiling with exposed trusses: the dining and living room share one vaulted ceiling with the trusses showing. It is the first thing you see from the front door, the room the rest of the house is arranged around, and one of our designer's favorite details in the catalog.

A kitchen island with a pantry behind it: the long island anchors the open main level, and the separate pantry keeps the counters clear. Casual meals happen at the island; the dining room is a few steps away when the table is set.

Screened porch: it extends the living room outdoors, which on the coast means it gets used most of the year.

Main-floor living: the primary suite, an office or den and the laundry all sit on the main level, so everyday life happens on one floor and the stairs are for guests and kids.

Three bedrooms and a loft upstairs: a reading loft at the top of the stairs opens to three bedrooms. Two share a Jack and Jill bath; the third has a private, accessible bath. An elevator is drawn as an option for anyone who wants every level without the stairs.
